Pemberton Hare is a small, independent plush boutique in San Jose, California. We keep a deliberately short list of characters — the ones we would happily keep ourselves — with a particular eye for the rare, the retired and the no-longer-made.
We started with one character we couldn’t part with, and then another. The ones we liked best kept turning out to be discontinued — so we got good at finding them.
That is still most of what we do. We spend a lot of time tracking down designs that are no longer in production, and the rest of it packing them carefully enough that they arrive the way we would want them to.
This is the part we are genuinely good at, so it is worth explaining.
Every day, the entire catalogue is re-checked against what is still in production. That is what sits behind the No longer made badge on a product page — it is computed from that day’s data, not typed in by hand when the listing was written. If a design quietly comes back into production, the badge comes off by itself.
It matters because the alternative is false scarcity. A shop that leaves “discontinued” sitting on a page for a year is telling you something that stopped being true — and it is the easiest thing in the world to get wrong by accident.
Every order is picked, checked and boxed by hand in San Jose, and dispatched within 24 hours, Monday to Friday.
Each character keeps its genuine tags — the paper swing tag with its product code, and the sewn-in fabric care label — and arrives in a complimentary blue gift bag, one per character, included as standard. Every listing carries real measurements: height, width and sitting height, in centimetres and inches, because “medium” means something different to every maker.
